Futureproof

Last night, I finally finished reading N. Frank Daniel's Futureproof. Now, this books is a real page turner and I should have been done with it in about two, three days maximum. As to why it took me so long to finish is beyond me. But I am done and I can honestly say, like the junkies from the book, that I am hooked! I cannot wait to get my fix of Gravity Eats the Dawn!

Like with every book I have fully read, I highlight one and only one section that I feel completely encompasses the tone of the entire book. This is done as I read the book and not at the end when I have finished. This really helps to give, at least to me, the validity and purity of a well-written book. So far, and I truly do not want to jinx it, I feel that I have chosen the right passages for each of the books that I have read. So enough blah-blahing and here is Futureproof in its raw form...

we are a blip, a mass of energy dissipated in a matter of moments, a flash in the pan, a twinkle of the eye, a prehistory lost in the passing of millennia, the minutiae of nothingness, a blink, an afterthought, a shallow stream evaporated in the first light of day. we are the misunderstood. we are the unclassified the oversimplified the target market the failing demographic. we are all already dead, the untalented, the ugly, the wasted, the underused, making way for the new. we are the bleeding. we are the profusely complaining, the overfed. we are the holes. the empty. the vacant. carved out and hollow. blankly starring. echoes. not ourselves. not anyone.

Musica!

This is a list that quickly grew a bit long one of my sleepless nights. I actually have to give credit to AMTV for providing some cools vids. But most of this list was compiled by the great variety found in Palladia. Enjoy!

Owl City-Fireflies
Toys, be not bound!

Francis and the Lights- The Top
No introduction needed.

Fefe Dobson- I Want You

Simple video that works perfectly with the song...

Kid Cudi
Kid Cudi's style of music might not be my first choice but I have definitely really grown to really like it. The first time I heard it was when I watched his video for Day 'N' Nite which I thought was so well made and was a break from the usual ass-shaking-half-naked girls that are usually shown. Love the music and love the videos. His latest, I Make Her Say, is again a fun and catchy beat with an awesome video to go with it. I'm all for Kid Cudi...well at least until he goes all ass-shaking-half-naked deal on us ;>

The Decemberist- Sixteen Military Wives
Appealing

Bat For Lashes-Daniel
If you have seen her video for What's a Girl To Do, then this video makes sense that it would come from her. Needless to say that I dig it.

Julietta Venegas-Seria Feliz
It's sad for me to say that I had never even remotely heard the wonderful music that Julietta Venegas has made until I recently saw her Unplugged special in which she gave an undoubtedly impressive performance. The diverse use of instruments she uses along with a wonderful singing voice which gives a colorful contrast to the eccentric lyrics she personally writes, has really made me dissapointed that I did not know of her sooner. Truly one of a kind.

Dead Man's Bones-In the Room Where You Sleep
Don't lie, you know you like it too. Props to Ryan Gosling on the music and the voice.

Manchester Ochestra-I've got friends
I dont know, I just like it ok?

Oldy but Goody

I posted this almost two years ago...

second reason as to why this book is a must....

"we try, we struggle, all the time to find words to express our love. the quality, the quantity, certain that no two people have experienced it before in the history of creation. perhaps catherine and heathcliff, perhaps romeo and juliet, maybe tristan and isolde, maybe hero and leander, but these are just characters, make-believe. we have known each other forever, since before conception even. we remember playing together in a playpen, crossing paths at f.a.o. shwarz. we remember meeting in front of the holy temple in the days before christ, we remember getting each other at the forum, at the parthenon, on passing ships as christopher columbus sailed to america. we have survived a pogrom together, we have died in dachau together, we have been lynched by the ku klux klan together. there has been cancer, polio, the bubonic plague, consumption, morphine addiction. we have had children together, we have been children together, we were in the womb together. our history is so deep and wide and long, we have known each other a million years. and we don't know how to express this kind of love, this kind of feeling.

i get paralyzed sometimes. one day, we are in the shower and i want to say to him, i could be submerged in sixty feet of water right now, never drowning, never even fearing drowning, knowing that it would be safe with you here, knowing that it would be okay to die as long as you are here. i want to say this but i don't"

-elizabeth wurtzel

although i could have gone just fine without the reference to christopher columbus, this passage is one of my favorites from the book. to say the least, go read the book for yourself.

one of the most depressing books that i have ever read, no doubt. but absolutely loved it.

My little old/ancient laptop

A few thousand songs and a few thousand pictures later, plus all the documents for school and work, my laptop finally sent me a big F you. I no longer have any empty space in my little ancient notebook. I would love to buy a new one since it is so old (in technological years) but whom am I kidding! Can't afford it...:sigh::. So for now, the external hard drive is going to have to do. That should buy me a bit more time. Here are a few of the pictures eating up my memory :)

A few hundred tries later...

...and I finally got through and registered myself for the raffle for the Michael Jackson memorial. With such a high demand for these tickets, I might have a better chance of winning the lotto :/ but it is worth the try!

Morning Listening

KCRW (89.9)

Great radio station with great talk news and great independent music. MP told me about this radio station and have been hooked on it since. It is part of NPR (National Public Radio) which is a distributor of free music and concerts from iTunes. Since I have been a fan of NPR through iTunes for some time, this radio station became a favorite of mine rather quickly. Take a quick listen and enjoy :>
